5.2 billion from the NRP for school construction
The resources allocated to education are 17.59 billion euros, divided into 11 investment lines, 6 allocated to infrastructure and 5 to skills. The beneficiaries of the resources allocated for education, which will be allocated through public notices, are schools, Its, and local building-owning entities with regard to school building interventions.
More than five billion for the construction and securing of kindergartens and preschools, building innovative and inclusive schools, increasing canteens, upgrading gymnasiums, and upgrading the school building stock. These are the first measures put in place by the government with funds from the NRP (National Recovery and Resilience Plan) through the decree no. 343 of december 2, 2021.
Breakdown of investment in school building stock
- 3 billion for kindergartens and preschools : The aim is to reduce the existing gap in early childhood education services and strengthen them throughout the country for the 0-6 age group. The 3 billion will be divided as follows: 2.4 billion for the 0-2 age group (55.29% of these resources will go to the South) and 600 mln for the 3-5 age group (40% to the South). - 800 million for the construction of 195 new schools that will replace old buildings (40 percent of the resources will go to the South). It will involve building architecturally and structurally innovative schools that are highly sustainable and energy efficient, inclusive, and able to ensure teaching based on innovative methodologies and full usability of learning environments.
- 400 million euros for the Strengthening full-time education through increased school canteens (57.68 percent of the resources will go to the South) The allocation will enable about 1,000 interventions, building new spaces or upgrading existing ones.
- 300 million euros (54.29% of the resources will go to the South) to increase the supply of sports activities through the construction of gyms or the upgrading of existing ones.
- 710 million for the securing and upgrading schools (40 percent of the resources will go to the South): regions identify entities to be eligible for funding based on regional programming to ensure the safety and upgrading of the existing school building stock.

With reference to the intervention to strengthen school canteens, all municipalities that own public buildings for state school use or for which they have the competence in accordance with the provisions of law 11 January 1996, n. can participate. 23.
